Learn English, Experience England

DLE’s language and culture courses are one of the fastest ways to improve English language skills. By following a structured programme of lessons and talking every day in English, students quickly develop greater fluency and confidence.

But our programmes offer much more than that. Individually designed to meet our students’ needs, our flexible courses are filled with opportunities – to make new friends, learn about and experience English culture, and have fun. Whether our students prefer playing games, cultural visits or trips to the beach, we’re dedicated to offering them a memorable and exciting visit.

Who DLE is for

DLE programmes are available for young people aged 15+ and adults.

Our programmes for young people take place during European school holidays, allowing them to take part without disrupting their education. Students stay with a carefully selected host family.

Programmes for adult students run throughout the year. You have the option of staying with a host family – which will greatly benefit your progress with English – or making your own accommodation arrangements. Please call us for details.

Students will enjoy their visit more if they already have some basic English. This will help them to speak with their host family.

Why DLE?

Language programmes can be expensive, so it’s important to choose the right provider. DLE’s mission is for every student to get the most out of their trip, improving their English quickly and having fun. We know that the secret to that is a lot of preparation!

That’s why, before we design a student’s programme, we take time to get to know them. For example, before their visit, we set up online groups so that we can talk to our students, discover their likes and dislikes, and make suggestions about possible activities. Joining in with group chats allows students to connect with each other before they arrive – as well as ask questions and share any concerns.

In addition, DLE’s experienced staff understand that being away from home can be stressful, and supporting our students is a priority.

Lastly, DLE ensure that our language programmes are provided by experienced, qualified, passionate teachers. For further information, please contact us and we will be happy to answer your questions.

The Locations

DLE offer two location options. Our single-centre programmes are based in Brighton, one of England’s most exciting, diverse and fashionable towns. We also offer a two-centre experience, combining stays in Brighton and York. York is a UNESCO World Heritage city set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The two-centre programme allows students to experience two very different parts of England - with two different English accents!

The Learning

DLE programmes are designed to help you improve in modern English as quickly as possible. Students take a short test on their first day, so that lessons match their level. All of our English courses are carried out within language schools, teaching general, elementary and advanced English. Their qualified language teachers provide a selection of educational and fun activities to match students’ learning needs, including dyslexia. We are proud to offer an inclusive programme. All learners are welcome. Please contact us to discuss further.

Safety and Wellbeing

In everything we do, the safeguarding, safety and wellbeing of our students comes first. We have designated staff who are trained in line with current policies. All of our host families have enhanced DBS checks and have been personally selected by us. Younger children are supervised throughout their visit by responsible adults. With parental consent, older students may have unsupervised periods, but have 24/7 access to help. We don’t underestimate feelings of homesickness and do everything we can to support students.

The Experience

The DLE experience really starts off with listening – we listen to our students and their families, then provide a programme to match their individual needs. All students have the option of staying with a host family, one of the best ways to make rapid progress in English. In the mornings, students take English language lessons. In the afternoon and evening, there are plenty of optional activities such as sports, cultural visits, evening entertainment and trips to the beach. They return home with new friends, lots of photos and even more memories!

Join DLE for a fantastic educational, cultural and social experience!

What is covered in an English language course?

We are able to provide course content to match all budgets and needs. An example is our General English Course - DLE/001106

Courses cover elementary to advanced level English.

Lessons will also help students learn about the diversity of British culture, as well as other cultures around the globe.

How do students learn?

The classroom learning uses the latest language learning methods, including full use of modern technology. Learning involves a broad range of resources, such as videos, news articles and audio clips.

Students typically work in pairs and small groups. Learning exercises include reading, writing, speaking, listening and pronunciation.

The maximum number of students in one class is 15. We believe that language learning takes place best within a small group.

Who are DLE’s teachers?

All of DLE’s teachers are experienced, educated to degree level and have English language teaching qualifications. We select the best teaching staff: teachers who are warm, friendly, confident and who can provide fun and exciting lessons.

DLE hold regular staff meetings and training sessions discussing new innovations to ensure all practices are up to date.

Who supports students?

As DLE is a small company, we like to see ourselves as a family. That also extends to our students. We have staff trained in student wellbeing who are able to deal with any problems that occur during a student’s stay, such as homesickness.

Students must be 15 years or older for independent course bookings.

Most of the students who attend our courses are from Europe. However, depending on the time of the year we also have students from Asia and the Middle East.

Host Families

How are host families selected?

DLE goes through a methodical selection process to ensure that the family and home are suitable for hosting students.

Why stay with a host family?

We believe that a stay with a host family is one of the best ways of learning English and about English culture.

It’s also an opportunity to make lifelong friends. One of our team took part on a language exchange with an Italian family when she was 16 – now, many years later, she is still very close friends with the family. So come to the UK for your own new, lifelong experiences!

Where are the host families?

The host family homes are in the attractive Westdene suburb of Brighton. This is an affluent area, with most host families offering students bedrooms with ensuite facilities. Homes are selected so that they are no more than 30 minutes to the course centre by public transport.

Host families are not used in York, but DLE provides alternative accommodation for students who choose this option.

Who will your host family be?

We spend a lot of time matching students to host families so that everyone has a fantastic, memorable experience. Our families are all welcoming and love to meet students from different cultures. We carry out careful checks to make sure families have all the facilities students could need - for example, all host families must offer free wi-fi during your stay. All of our host families all have enhanced DBS checks.

For further information on host families, please get in touch.

Where do larger groups stay?

Large group bookings have the option of staying at local hostels (with private bathrooms) or schools/university halls (when not in residence).

Example activities on your visit might include sports, arts, culture, and visiting local attractions. We are happy to match activities to your requests, if we are able to book in advance as per our terms and conditions.
